Owners of Motorized Scooters/Motorized Skateboards

Colorado State Law prohibits motorized scooters/motorized skateboards from being operated on public roads or on public sidewalks.

Unless the skateboard has a seat, a motorized skateboard is defined as a "skate or similar device." If the skateboard has a seat it is defined as a motorized bicycle.

Motorized bicycles may be operated on the street, but it must be registered and the operator must have a valid drivers license.

The only devices that may be operated on a sidewalk are bicycles or other "human" powered vehicles. [42-4-710 (3) C.R.S.]

No person may use the highways to travel on skis, toboggans, coasting sleds, skates and similar devices. [42-4-109 (9) C.R.S.]

Parents/Guardians

You may not authorize or knowingly permit a child or ward to violate these statues.

Violations of these laws are punishable by a

Fine of $15 to $100.

    A motorized skateboard may be operated on a private driveway or other private property with the owner's expressed permission.
